Thanks to a grant from the US Forest Service in cooperation with PA DCNR Bureau of Forestry, SEPA RC&D is able to provide free dry  fire hydrants to municipalities and fire companies.

SEPA RC&D Council will assist with the installation of 42 dry hydrants in the region over the 1 1/2 years.

Each year thousands of dollars of damage is done to properties because of fire. Often in areas not served by public water systems fire companies need to haul water long distances to fight fires.  Having adequate sources of water year round for fire fighting is also a concern.

Installing dry fire hydrants strategically throughout a community is one way of aiding fire companies in their efforts. Dry fire hydrants are non-pressurized systems that provide a fast and safe way for fire companies to obtain water from ponds, lakes, streams, and rivers.

Farmers, homeowners, and landowners benefit by having easily accessible water close by in fire emergencies and also can possibly have insurance premiums lowered.
