Only Rain in the Drain

Home

Thanks to everyone and the PA DEP Growing Greener Program for helping us complete this project in 2005! Be sure to look for the “Rain Only” curb markers and stenciled drain inlets as you travel around the region.

If you would like more information about the project or about obtaining materials, please contact the RC&D office.

10 Simple Things You Can Do:

bulletUse a mulch mower or compost grass clippings
bulletRecycle used motor oil and antifreeze.
bulletApply fertilizer and lawn chemicals according to recommended rates and schedules
bulletPlace cigarette butts, and other garbage in trash cans
bulletCollect and properly dispose of pet wastes
bulletWash cars on grassy areas and keep soap suds from drain inlets
bulletBe careful when spreading de-icing materials on sidewalks and driveways
bulletFind out where the water from the storm drains goes.
bulletEncourage your municipal officials to label all storm drain inlets
bulletContact a local watershed organization for ideas on ways to protect the streams

Remember, someone downstream may be going to drink this water!
